But where did Jessica come from you might ask and how did she get into voice over? Jessica was born & raised in Los Angeles by first generation European parents (a German & a Swedish speaking Finn). As a kid, she drew cartoons for all the kids on the block, directed all the important shows and starred herself in them. Thus, being in the arts was an obvious career choice. Jessica began her acting training at UC Santa Barbara where she received a BFA in Theater Arts, graduating with high honors. Jessica loved college because she was doing what she loved! She also had fond memories of her training at ACT's Summer Intensive Program (San Francisco, Ca). And, her most intense acting training was actually in LA, doing voice & movement classes with Lenonidas Ossetynsky (Grotowski method). Jessica enjoyed a stage and on-camera acting career in Los Angeles, including performing shows on many well-known LA stages. She was a long time member of the Odyssey Theater's Children's Theater Company, "The Glorious Players", where she performed numerous characters for family audiences. All those characters needed work that paid, so it only made sense that Jessica landed in the wonderful world of voice over, where you don't have to look the part, you just have to "act" . Towards the end of her stage career, Jessica was honored to be a member at the Met Theater while under the direction of Holly Hunter, Beth Henley& Amy Madigan. Even though just loved the stage (not much Equity Theater here in LA), Jessica found her true calling was voice over....being a character actress the jobs in voice over were endless, fun and she didn't have to look fabulous all the time. You just have to FEEL fabulous...which was a given 'cause the job is so much fun! FUN FACTS FOR FANS (and those who are curious): Just a few personal tidbits for Fans and those who just want to know more…. Besides loving and truly appreciating the voice over work and fan base she has received over the past several years, Jessica also loves the outdoors, travel, numerous sports including snow skiing, hiking, roller blading, swimming in natural, large bodies of water and just being outside in nature. She also is an animal lover, writer, voice over teacher (please see tab "Jessica's Creative Voice Over Lessons") reader and enjoys meditation on a daily basis. Jessica’s greatest personal influence: Opa (grandfather in German) who gave Jessica the courage & inspiration to go beyond her conservative up-bringing live out her dreams. Hans Straus led a very interesting, rags-to-riches life which inspired and touched many people. Jessica's favorite quote (one of 'em): ” Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.“ - Dr. Seuss |
